Yet, for some reason, none of them ever becomes a client?<\/p>\n<p>Well, one way you might be able to generate more enquiries is to <strong>think more like an online retailer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>But before I tell you exactly how, there&#8217;s just one thing you&#8217;ll need to know \u2013 what it is that makes a great online retail site.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nAnd, to see what that is, you only have to look at the ultimate online retailer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Amazon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s <em>the<\/em> role model for any eCommerce website.<\/p>\n<p>It has a clean, uncluttered design and is so easy to use.\u00a0It also has a whole load of great user features that add value to the shopping experience and help you to make a much more informed purchase.<\/p>\n<p>Here are just a few typical examples:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"blog\">\n<li>Thoughtful item recommendations, related items and other helpful product suggestions<\/li>\n<li>Customer reviews and product ratings<\/li>\n<li>A <i>Look Inside<\/i> feature that lets you browse through parts of a book before you buy<\/li>\n<li>A variety of shipping options<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>So What&#8217;s the Point?<\/h2>\n<p>Well basically, aren&#8217;t you <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">selling something<\/span> on your own website too?<\/p>\n<p>OK, unlike an eCommerce website, you&#8217;re selling a service you can&#8217;t physically buy over the net.<\/p>\n<p>But that shouldn&#8217;t stop you.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, you can still incorporate features into your own site that encourage people to buy or make an enquiry \u2013 in just the same way that online retailers do.<\/p>\n<p>So what kind of features can you introduce?<\/p>\n<p>Well, the following are two ways in which I improved my own website that were inspired by eCommerce. There&#8217;s no reason why you shouldn&#8217;t do the same too:<\/p>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"vertical-align: middle;\" src=\"https:\/\/writeonline.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/circled-arrow.webp\" alt=\"Circled arrow\" width=\"20\" height=\"23\">&nbsp;&nbsp;Highly visible call-to-action buttons<\/h2>\n<p>Have you ever noticed how on online shopping sites the <i>Add to Cart<\/i>, <i>Proceed to Checkout<\/i> or <i>Confirm Order<\/i> button always stands out from the rest of the page?<\/p>\n<p>Take, for example, the following typical product details page on the website of multinational fashion retailer <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.hm.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">H&#038;M<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 1px solid #eaf0f6; max-width:100%; padding-right: 0;\" title=\"The Add to Cart button stands out from the rest of the text\" src=\"https:\/\/writeonline.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/eCommerce-Add-to-Cart-Button.webp\" alt=\"An Add to Cart button on the H&#038;M website\" width=\"520\" height=\"337\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Now take a look at the very bottom of the <a href=\"\/\/writeonline.io\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">home page<\/a> of my own website.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 1px solid #eaf0f6; max-width:100%; padding-right: 0;\" title=\"Call-to-action buttons emulate the online shopping experience\" src=\"https:\/\/writeonline.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Write-Online-Get-Started-Button.webp\" alt=\"eCommerce-style Get Started button on the home page of the Write Online website\" width=\"520\" height=\"226\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Spot the similarity?<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ve got it. They both have just what I&#8217;m talking about \u2013 a prominent call-to-action button.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"padding-right: 9px;\" src=\"https:\/\/writeonline.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Copywriter-Tip.webp\" alt=\"Lightbulb icon\" width=\"8\" height=\"12\" \/><b>Sneaky tip:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Choose brighter, contrasting colours for smaller call-to-action buttons so that they grab your visitors&#8217; attention. But for larger buttons, choose colours that blend in more with the colour scheme of your page.<\/p>\n<p>However, choose your colour carefully to avoid clashing with your website&#8217;s overall design. If in doubt, consult a graphic designer or use an online colour selection tool such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webfx.com\/web-design\/color-picker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">WebFX Color Picker<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/color.adobe.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Adobe Color<\/a>. Alternatively, you could use generative AI to do the legwork for you.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>People almost can&#8217;t help but click on buttons. So if a visitor is interested in what you&#8217;ve got to sell, they&#8217;re all the more likely to take the action you want.<\/p>\n<p>In the above example on Boohoo.com, the action they want you to take is to add the item to your basket. In the case of my site, it&#8217;s to get prospective clients to visit my <a href=\"\/\/writeonline.io\/contact-us.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Contact Us<\/a> page, where they can find out more and make an enquiry if they wish.<\/p>\n<p>This leads me on to the next thing:<\/p>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"vertical-align: middle;\" src=\"https:\/\/writeonline.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/circled-arrow.webp\" alt=\"Circled arrow\" width=\"20\" height=\"23\">&nbsp;&nbsp;A fully featured query form<\/h2>\n<p>Just imagine for a moment you&#8217;re shopping on an online retail site and you find exactly the product you want.<\/p>\n<p>Then you discover that you don&#8217;t actually have the option to make the purchase online. Instead you need to either email or phone the retailer to place your order.<\/p>\n<p>Now doesn&#8217;t that sound<strong>\u00a0far too much like hard work<\/strong>? Be honest \u2013 you&#8217;d much rather click on a few buttons, enter a few details, click to confirm and be done.<\/p>\n<p>So think about this for a moment &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Imagine a similar situation where you&#8217;re a visitor to your own website. You decide to make a query, but only have a choice between picking up the phone and sending an email.<\/p>\n<p>So what are you going to say?<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, you&#8217;ve got to start thinking about things. So it&#8217;s very tempting to put that query off until another time \u2013 and the only trouble is that you never <em>do<\/em> come back.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s where a fully featured query form comes in.<\/p>\n<p>To see what I mean, let&#8217;s look at a clip from my own <a href=\"\/\/writeonline.io\/enquiry-form.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">query form<\/a> below:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border: 1px solid #eaf0f6; max-width:100%; padding-right: 0;\" title=\"Enquiry forms can save your website visitor a whole lot of time and effort\" src=\"https:\/\/writeonline.io\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Copywriter-Query-Form.webp\" alt=\"A clip from part of the query form on the Write Online website, showing dropdown menus where you can choose a budget for services such as website content and blog posts\" width=\"350\" height=\"324\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Can you see why making a query is so much easier?<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s right. <strong>Because the form does all the thinking, so you don&#8217;t have to<\/strong>. All you need to do is fill in a few fields, select a few options and away you go \u2013 you&#8217;ve got the ball rolling.<\/p>\n<p>Easy isn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n<h3>But just one final thing<\/h3>\n<p>All this clicking and selecting is great. Every button you click conveys a sense of action \u2013 just like placing an order on an eCommerce website.<\/p>\n<p>But not everyone&#8217;s the same. Some people prefer to call. Others like to email. So make sure you give your prospects all three options.<\/p>\n<p>Remember how I included <i>variety of shipping options<\/i> in my list of great Amazon user features? This is just the same.<\/p>\n<p>The more options you give, the more likely you&#8217;ll get a sale.<\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s only as long as you don&#8217;t go too far and overwhelm the visitor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"display-profile-header\" style=\"font-size: 155%;\">Have Your Say<\/p>\n<p class=\"calltoaction\"><b>Do you think these two ideas would work well on your website?
